  • River Level

The UK environment agency provide river level measures taken from datum at various towns and cities along the Severn. The datum starting point is normally on the river bed.

Part of assessing whether condtions are safe enough to operate the ferry, is to take advantage of the technology on offer to forcast river levels expected at the time of operating.

The following links to the check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk site, will track water level from Shrewsbury (at Welsh Bridge) down to Worcester, where there are datum on the Barbourne stretch and also at Diglis. The ferry operates in between the Barbourne and Diglis measures.

Take note of a surge in river height at Shrewsbury (Welsh Bridge), as this rise will arrive in Worcester around 36 hours later.

The map higlights the location on the river which the links below will take you to:

  • The webcam installed at the Diglis lock looks back upstream. During the summer Doris can be seen moored to the quay side visible just above the left lock gate. (Note: On entering the site you may need to scroll down to see the option to start the webcam. Also the webcam contains a couple of adverts with audio that last some seconds before the live footage appears).
